Be in no doubt that the island is the place to be this May Bank Holiday, with fun-filled activities available for the whole family.
Put your endurance to the test and take part in the annual Walking Festival. Now in its 21st year, this rewarding trek sees experienced explorers chart a course across our picturesque island, affording accompanying crowds breathtakingly views as far as the eye can see. Marvel at the white cliffs of the west and the lush, endless green of the east as you clock up the kilometres.
For those wanting to inject some pace to proceedings they can sign up for the Isle of Wight Challenge, one of the Walking Festival’s breakaway events. A two-day mission that involves participants selecting from one of a Full Challenge (106km), Half Challenge (52km) or Quarter Option (25km), both jogging and running are encouraged. Rest assured regular pit stops, refreshments, massage and even a shuttle bus back from whence you start are included.
Elsewhere the Real Ale Festival will be in full swing from Saturday morning. Be sure to rock up to Haven Street Station to savour beverages from all corners of the UK, including beer sourced from the island itself. Better still pints can be enjoyed as trains roll past…
Music lovers are advised to head to the Medina Theatre in Newport, where celebrated tribute artist Navi will be performing songs by King of Pop Michael Jackson. Navi is widely revered as the best Jackson impersonator, so much so he is officially recognised by the MJ Estate and Sony no less.
Finally the Isle of Wight Randonnée is scheduled for Sunday, May 5th. Billed as a non-competitive cycle ride, this event was established by the Wayfarers as far back as 1986. Bikers can select either a 100km or 55km route around the island in a clockwise direction, taking in our finest scenery.
