We will be discounting the price of this for two people holding English Heritage memberships to £770.00 for two persons.
Immerse yourself in the Island’s rich heritage this April, and follow in Queen Victoria’s footsteps with tours of the royal palace at Osborne and nearby Quarr Abbey, as well as English Heritage tickets to Carisbrooke Castle or Yarmouth Castle.
During a three-night stay at The Royal, enjoy a welcome talk from Robin McInnes, OBE, a chartered geologist and author of fifteen books on the art and landscape of the Island. Then visit Queen Victoria and Prince Albert’s summer palace, Osborne House. The elaborate Italianate house and its expansive grounds were a favourite with the royal family. When in residence, Victoria enjoyed visiting Quarr Abbey House, and her diary entry from 1885 reads, “there is a lovely view overlooking Ryde and Spithead, with trees down to the sea. The air was delicious…” In 1912, the monastery of Quarr Abbey was built near the ruins of the original medieval church. Now Grade 1 listed, the striking abbey is home to a community of Benedictine monks, and Father Luke will lead a tour of the abbey, offering insights to the abbey’s history and monastic life.
Some of the stone from the original 12th c. abbey was used to build Henry VIII’s Yarmouth Castle, which you can visit on the remaining day of your stay. The Historic Isle package also includes a three-course gourmet meal at The Royal’s restaurant each evening, as well as a Full English breakfast and return car ferry ticket with Red Funnel.
